Can any doctor in CA prescribe medical marijuana?

Is it any doctor that can recommend it to a patient, or do they have to be registered somehow or be part of a certain practice?
This only applies to doctors in California since medical marijuana is “legal” and available to the general public.

What do I need to do to become a physician assistant?

An original investigation published in the December 12, 2005 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that more patients are looking for information on the Internet before talking with their physicians. Lead investigator Dr Bradford Hesse from the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, stated, “The context in which patients consume health information has changed dramatically with diffusion of the Internet, advances in telemedicine, and changes in media health coverage.”

The information for this report came from the Health Information National Trends Survey in which 6369 persons 18 years or older were polled by telephone. Of those polled, over 63% had used the Internet, of those 63.7 percent had used the Internet to find health information. The report did note, however, that patients still trust the information they get from their doctor more than what they find on the Internet.

Some doctors see this flood of information as a problem creating more questions. Dr Hesse, noting that doctors are spending more time reviewing information that patients bring them from the Internet suggested, “Ongoing attention may be needed to adjust reimbursement policies for time spent with patients interpreting printouts, for accommodating shifts toward informed and shared decision making, for steering consumers to credible information sources, and for attending to the needs of those who fall through the cracks of the digital divide.”

The most encompassing statement of the study comes from the introduction where the authors said, “The environment in which patients consume medical and health information has changed dramatically during the past decade. Rapid diffusion of Internet technology within the public sphere has placed an unprecedented amount of health information within reach of general consumers.”

“Many of my patients are better informed before they even come into my clinic,” explained Dr. Steven Read, Clinic Director of Ortega Chiropractic Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. “It isn’t always a good thing though with all the misinformation that is found on the Internet,” he added.

Why check a doctor’s background?

We all want the best possible surgeon or physician when it comes to our healthcare. We know all physicians and surgeons do not have the same training and experience, especially in today’s advanced medical

health-care environment. No doctor will tell you outright whether he/she has been disciplined or had one or more malpractice judgments issued against him/her. The only way to find out, is to ask or research the surgeon or physician yourself.

Free Doctor Information

Is there such a thing as free doctor information? Absolutely; you can find free doctor information by contacting your state medical board or by browsing online. The question is, how much information can you get for free and how accurate will it be? Most state medical boards do not charge; however, most (if not all) offer limited background information on doctors. Very few establishments (less than a handful) specialize in providing information relating to doctor’s credentials. That’s why it’s important to find out how credible the company is, and what type of doctor-related information they offer.

Doctors’ Credentials

Just by looking at a doctor’s credentials will not guarantee you will receive high quality health care. However, you can use several important criteria to find an experienced well-trained physicians or surgeon.

Tips:

If your are looking for a specialist, make sure he/she is board-certified in his/her respective
field of specialty.
Make sure no disciplinary actions has been instituted.
Look closely at malpractice judgments, and how many have been brought against the practitioner (more than three is not good)
Find out if he/she is fellowship-trained in their specialty field. This-is usually a good sign.
Look for hospital affiliations or membership affiliations; the more there are, the better.
Physician or surgeon has been practicing medicine five years or more.
Research to see if they have teaching responsibilities at any hospitals etc.
Look for a physician or surgeon who has been practicing medicine for five years or more.
Research to see if they have teaching responsibilities at any hospitals or other medical institutions.
Find out how much of the physician’s practice focuses on the medical condition/surgery you request.
Find out if the physician/surgeon has any awards, or is involved in his/her community.

Research a Doctor

How do I research a doctor? The Internet is loaded with many sites which claim to have information about doctors’ credentials information. And yes, most of them do; however, you want to make sure you get more than just a doctor’s license number and contact information. For more comprehensive information, consider contacting the following sources.

Your local library
Your state medical board
The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), a non-profit organization comprising 24 medical specialty boards.
The medical society relevant to your intended physician or surgeon’s field of specialty.
American Medical Association , if a member

Bottom line.

Every physician or surgeon has a different background of experience and training. The more research you conduct into this background, the more it will increase your chances of finding a health-care provider who will satisfy your medical needs.

I have some questions about my doctors way of doing things?

i have been sick since november. i have been having episodes of really bad coughing, shortness of breath and breathing fat. i went to see a lung doctor in march. he wasn't sure what was wrong with me. so i was put on asthma medication. i was put on singular, it did not work. so now i am on a 2 week course of prednisone. i also have a rescue inhaler. like i said i saw the lung doctor in march and he does not want to see me back until june. i have called my lung doctor twice to tell him that i am not any better yet and he still does not want to see mt back until june. like i said my symptoms are really bad coughing, shortness of breath and breathing fast. well my lung doctor sent me for a barium swallow test. i don't see why a barium swallow test was needed for a person who is coughing and having shortness of breath. my mom is kinda mad at my at my lung doctor because he keeps giving me medication and sending me for tests and not wanting to see sooner than june.

my questions are why would a doctor send a patient with coughing and shortness of breathe for a barium swallow test? why does my doctor keep giving me meds and sending me for tests without seeing me first. should i find a new lung doctor? and are lung doctors the same thing as asthma doctors? and does my mom have a right to be mad at my doctor for giving me meds and sending me for tests without seeing me first?
